RO Group wins conservation awards

Cornwall holiday parks scoop gold in prestigious David Bellamy conservation awards.

The RO is proud to announce that its two holiday parks, Stonerush Lakes and Southern Halt, have each won gold in the 2019 David Bellamy Conservation Awards. The awards recognise holiday parks that protect and enhance Britain’s natural environment and the award assessors specifically consider the management of land as a haven for wildlife; the reduction in the use of energy, water and other resources; the reduction, reusage and recycling of waste and support for local communities.

In awarding gold to Stonerush Lakes and Southern Halt, both parks were commended for their many initiatives to help protect the natural environment, each site managed sustainably against strict criteria and with an enduring passion for the natural surroundings.

Gold was awarded to both parks after a detailed inspection by the award assessors, who described them as “wildlife wonderlands.” Natural features in the parks include extensive plantings of wildflowers which provide foraging for bees and butterflies and well managed hedgerows and woodlands which are also natural habitats for a wider array of animals and insects. The lakes on each park attract various waterfowl, dragonflies and other aquatic life.

Both locations include privately owned luxury lodges built with timber from sustainable sources and have been fitted with energy saving features, including high levels of insulation. The parks boast shielded illumination to help visitors enjoy the night sky and Stonerush Lakes’ Old Mill restaurant sources local foods. The parks are also phasing out single-use plastics.

Edward Rowlandson, Group Managing Director, the RO Group commented:

"We are extremely proud to have won this prestigious award by creating sustainable and environmentally friendly holiday locations at our sites in Cornwall. At the RO we care equally about our environment and the communities in which we operate. We are committed to fundraising for local charities and good causes such as the Cornwall Air Ambulance. I would like to thank the David Bellamy Conservation Awards for their recognition of our passion for the environment and our fundraising activities to the benefit of the local community."
